What Does a Septic System Cost in Courtenay?

Courtenay Septic Systems quotes septic work across the Comox Valley, where design and filing alone typically run $2,000 to $5,200 in British Columbia before the system itself goes in. What you pay after that depends on your lot, your soil and how many bedrooms your home has, in Black Creek, Royston, Union Bay and Merville alike.

When your lot needs extra treatment, we install a Type 2 system that treats water to under 45 mg/L of both suspended solids and biochemical oxygen demand before sending it to your field.

For a full breakdown of what an install involves, see septic system installation.

What changes the price of design and filing?

When we design and file your system with Island Health, we measure your lot size, slope, soil type and bedroom count. A Type 3 system, built for tighter lots or sensitive sites, sits at the higher end of that range because it treats effluent further, to under 10 mg/L. Design and filing work is a separate charge from $2,000 to $5,200, but our on-site estimate for installation or repair is always free.

What does installation itself depend on?

Your price depends on machine access, tank distance, soil hauling, and whether we hit bedrock during the dig. We quote the exact figure once we've seen the site.

Is there help paying for maintenance?

CVRD's maintenance rebate covers 75% of eligible costs through 2028, for Electoral Areas A, B and C: inspection up to $500, riser installation or replacement up to $400, distribution box up to $200, effluent filter up to $100. New installs and pump-outs aren't eligible.

What does a records request cost?

Island Health charges $50 per property for a Request for Release of Information — useful if you're buying a home and want its filed system plans.
