About Courtenay Septic Systems

Courtenay Septic Systems installs, repairs and inspects systems across Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland and CVRD Electoral Areas A, B and C. We file every installation with Island Health ourselves under BC's Sewerage System Regulation. We protect your home with $2,000,000 in liability insurance and full WorkSafeBC coverage on every job.

Where we work

We serve Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Royston, Union Bay, Black Creek, Merville, Fanny Bay, Denman Island and Hornby Island.

Who we are

We install, repair, inspect and service risers, from Black Creek south to Cumberland.

Licensing and insurance

British Columbia has no contractor trade registration for septic work. Instead, the province requires an authorized person — a Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner or a professional — to design and file your system, and our own Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner handles that on every job we do for you. Our Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner signs off on your Type 1 or Type 2 design and files it with Island Health under the Sewerage System Regulation. Every crew we send to your lot carries $2,000,000 in liability insurance and full WorkSafeBC coverage.

Permits

When a job also needs a building permit — a new system for a new house, a field replacement under an addition — the local building department handles that side, and the electoral areas go through the regional district instead. We sort out which one applies before we file anything, since the septic filing itself always goes to Island Health regardless.

Getting a quote

We walk your land before quoting, because your lot size, soil and slope determine what system you need. You get a flat number in writing before any work starts.

What happens after the work is done

Once your system passes inspection, we send your Letter of Certification within 30 days so you have the paperwork Island Health requires. We keep a copy on file too, so if a question comes up years later, it's easy to answer.
